Katie Holten has a deep interest in the connections among time, the ecosystem, and the universe. Her Sun Clock, created specifically for installation at Storm King, marks time with viewers’ shadows, harkening back to an era when human and geological time were closely aligned. The hour markers of Sun Clock resemble orbiting planets and are painted to match "Cosmic Turquoise," at one time postulated to be the average color of the universe. To keep proper time, a viewer must stand in a different spot on Sun Clock each month, a reminder of the Earth's constant movement.
